Privacy Policy

In short
- You can play without an account. I don't ask for your name or email to play.
- Your progress is saved in your browser. Your nickname and daily results go to my server so the leaderboard works.
- I don't sell your data, I don't show ads and I don't use tracking cookies.
- You can ask me to delete your data at any time.
Who runs the game
Blade of the Spade is made and run by Pavel Širůček, an individual based in the Czech Republic (the “controller” under the GDPR). You can reach me through the feedback form in the game (the Community icon at the top of the screen) or on Discord.
What is stored and why
In your browser
The game saves your progress in your browser's local storage: today's site, your collection, your streak, your settings and an anonymous sign-in key for my server. This data stays on your device. Clearing your browser data deletes it.
On the game's server
When you play a daily site, the game creates an anonymous player for you on my server. It stores:
- An anonymous player ID and your nickname – shown on the leaderboard.
- Your daily results – score and which finds you dug up. They are used for the leaderboard, your finder's diary, your collection and statistics such as “found by 3 % of players”.
- Your digs – where and when you dug on the site and how long the identification took. They are used to decide what you found and to spot cheating. Detailed digs are deleted after 30 days; only the counts of players per find are kept.
- Which parts of the site were sent to you – needed so the game can load the terrain around you.
I process this data because it is needed to run the game you chose to play and to keep the leaderboard fair (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b) and (f)).
If you create an account
When you sign in with Google, Discord or by email, I receive your email address and, from Google or Discord, your name and profile picture. I use them only to sign you in and to keep your progress across devices. Your profile picture is shown to other players next to your nickname on the leaderboard only if you turn it on in Profile (off by default; you can turn it off again at any time). Without a photo, a country flag can appear next to your nickname: the game guesses the country from your device's time zone (not from your IP address), and you can change it or hide the flag in Profile. I never post anything on your behalf and I don't get access to your other data. Signing in is optional. You can delete your account at any time in the game: Profile → Account → Delete account. This deletes your account, nickname, showcase and all your results from my server straight away.
Player card and showcase
The leaderboard is public, and so is the game data behind it. For a player on the leaderboard, anyone, even without an account, can see a player card with game data only: nickname, detectorist level, flag (or profile picture, if you turned it on), the date of the first find, days played, number of finds, kinds in the collection, best placing and total points. The game links to the card from the nickname of players who have a showcase.
If you have an account, you can display finds in a showcase in your Profile. Other players then see those items on your card, with the points and the date of each piece (a piece found today shows no date until the day ends), and your showcase can appear on the game's home page if you played that day. An empty showcase is not shown; you can change or empty it at any time. Registered players can award a showcase with prestige points. I store who awarded whom and when, to keep the daily limits and spot abuse; other players only see the number of awards, not who gave them. The card shows no location of finds and no time you were last online.
Feedback form
If you send me feedback, I receive your message and, if you fill it in, your email address. I use it only to read your feedback and reply to you.
Anonymous statistics
I count visits and game events (for example “tutorial finished” or “first find”) with Umami, a privacy-friendly analytics tool. It uses no cookies, doesn't store your IP address and doesn't identify you. You can turn it off for your browser by opening the game with ?mereni=vypnout at the end of the address.
Support on Ko-fi
If you support the game on Ko-fi, the payment is handled by Ko-fi. I only receive the amount and currency to show the monthly progress bar – not your name or email.
Services I use
- Supabase – the game's database and server, hosted in the European Union.
- Netlify – hosts the website and receives the feedback form. Like any web server, it processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver the pages. Netlify may process data outside the EU under the EU's standard contractual clauses.
- Umami – anonymous statistics (no personal data).
- Google and Discord – only if you choose to sign in with them. Their own privacy policies apply.
- Resend – sends the sign-in code if you sign in by email (your email address and the code only).
Links to partners, Discord, Facebook or Ko-fi take you to other websites with their own privacy policies.
How long I keep it
Detailed digs: 30 days. Daily results and your nickname: as long as the game runs or until you ask me to delete them. Accounts: until you delete your account. Feedback: as long as needed to handle it.
Your rights
You have the right to access your data, to correct it, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to its processing and to receive it in a portable form. To use these rights, write to me through the feedback form and tell me your nickname. You can also file a complaint with the Czech data protection authority, the Office for Personal Data Protection.
Children
The game can be played without any personal data. If you are under 15, please ask a parent before creating an account or leaving your email in the feedback form.
Changes
When something changes – for example when accounts launch – I will update this page and the date at the top.
